Workplace Bullying

Sep 27 2017

What a sad situation - that adults are fearful of going to work because they feel intimidated.  The cost of this to business must be huge - either because people leave and have to be replaced, or the cost of grievance investigations and the potential for legal action.  I sometimes think that if people were more aware of their behaviour and how it can be perceived by other people, then many of these situations can be avoided. I once worked with a public sector organisation where the Chief Executive who had a personality we describe as "red" (extraverted thinking), was accused of bullying by his PA who had a lot of "green" energy (introverted feeling). After coaching them both, they were made aware of their differences and how each perceived the other, and a tribunal was avoided. More self-awareness could benefit everyone, and being open to change could avoid time and costly outcomes from personality clashes.
